Catching Fugitives with Help from Securus Technologies

I was notified this week my fugitive task force was to find and drag back to jail a very dangerous fugitive who was also wanted for shooting cops. If this suspect has little regard for the police, you can imagine what he thinks about the average citizen he comes across. This was the kind of trash we had to find, arrest, and get off the streets before he put anyone else in danger.

Despite our best efforts, this suspect had a number of family and friends who had no trouble hiding the fugitive. When the suspect got word we were inquiring about his location with his family, he stepped things up. His next robbery at a local restaurant was troubling because he took the owner into the meat locker and beat him to the point he almost died. That was enough for our team, as we pulled back all our visible efforts and decided that we had to start working more in the shadows without the help of anyone our suspect had relations with.

Securus Technologies was installing a new inmate telephone call monitoring system in the prison that we knew could be a valuable resource. Once me and the team learned how the LBS software worked, we were excited for a few reasons. Instead of talking to the inmates, and perhaps tipping them off so they could let our suspect know what we were up to, we could work in the shadows. The system is capable of doing the work of a number of my officers, so we were going to get bigger results in less time. With so many people helping keep our suspect away from capture, we knew eventually someone would talk.

Days later an associate let slip about a safe house off our radar, so we stormed the facility and found our suspect sleeping off a night of heavy drinking. He was unable to resist and was easily taken into custody.
